Tanzania - Dar es Salaam 2
Dar
es Salaam is a city of
about 2 1/2 million people that bustles during the work day and is
quiet at night.
It's not the capital of Tanzania but is the largest city in the country
and one of the most important shipping ports on the African east coast.
Along the north shore are upscale neighborhoods--such as Oyster Bay--where some
gay
venues
and
the
new USA embassy are located. This new embassy (photo 10) replaced the one that
was
bombed
in August 1998.
In that former location is now a new office building (photo 11) of no particular
importance.
The very modest memorial to the bombing
is found in the courtyard of the National Museum (photos 12=20).
Many of the photos in this gallery are not individually captioned; they speak
for themselves.
