Dar es Salaam is a city of about 2 1/2 million people that bustles during the work day and is quiet at night.
It’s not the capital of Tanzania but is the largest city in the country
and one of the most important shipping ports on the African east coast.
Along the north shore are upscale neighborhoods–such as Oyster Bay–where some gay venues
and the new USA embassy are located. This new embassy (photo 10) replaced the one that was bombed in August 1998.
In that former location is now a new office building (photo 11) of no particular importance.
The very modest memorial to the bombing is found in the courtyard of the National Museum (photos 12=20).
