Being Africa there is the usual homophobia in society, yet also being Portuguese and European there seems to be less intensity to discrimination.

The constitution forms the basis of government. Cape Verde has few natural resources. The economy is service-oriented, with commerce, transport, and public services accounting for more than 70% of GDP. Most of the people are Christian. A new Penal code made in 2004 has now completely decriminalized homosexuality in Cape Verde with an equal age of consent.
